Plastic cups are destroying our planet

Plastic Cups have to go!

Plastic has been around since the 1950’s and is one of the most widely used man made materials on earth! Approximately 9 billion metric tonnes of plastic has been used since and the amount of products being built with plastic is accelerating every year.

Like many other man made materials, we simply take it for granted that they are safe and harmless to human beings. Furthermore, how many of us even considered that one day plastic would become a huge danger to life on planet earth?

Imagine being faced with approximately 9 billion metric tonnes of plastic and you are kindly asked to safely dispose of it without contaminating the oceans, destroying land or polluting the air. You would see it as an impossible task right?

What if you were told that one day there would be more plastic than there is fish in our oceans? That statistic is very true. In fact, it is estimated that we are only 30 years away from this being our reality.

Our planet is in danger and we have a responsibility to do what we can to make our planet a safe place for all who live on it and all future generations.

Here at Active Water Coolers we have consciously decided to do something. Something that will at least reduce the amount of plastic we use and that will hopefully motivate others to do the same.

We are aiming to eliminate 2 factors of our business that currently use the most plastic. These are:-

 – Water Bottles

 – Plastic Cups

Water Bottles

We have already crossed the starting line with water bottles.  We’ve wiped our product range clean of any water coolers that use the large water bottles! We now only provide plumbed in/mains fed water coolers that provide water directly from the mains.

We do though have many customers who currently have water bottle machines. However, over time we are looking at replacing those water coolers with the more plastic friendly mains fed water coolers.Plastic cups are the most popular choice for our customers when buying or renting our water coolers. They are bought by the thousands and disposed of as quickly as they are used.

We are currently in talks with manufacturers of cups that use alternative bio-degradable materials.  It would make a huge difference to us if we could supply these cups to our customers and do our bit to help our planet. As a company, the changes we are making may only be small. However, we hope that our ‘Plastic Free’ mission can inspire others to do the same.

Lets save our planet, one step at a time.
