WATER COOLERS HARTLEPOOL, COUNTY DURHAM
Hartlepool sits in County Durham and is just north of Middlesbrough, Stockton-on-Tees, Teesside, and just South of Peterlee and Sunderland.
Sitting on the coastline, Harltepool has become a popular destination among the Northeast residence from close by Sunderland, Newcastle Upon Tyne, Middlesbrough and Durham as a place to visit to get away from the hustle and bustle of life. Seaton Carew, being the popular choice for most visitors. Hartlepool United Football Club are the towns local and biggest sporting team with some famous faces involved in the club. These include big fan and President, Jeff Stelling and Iron Maidens Janick Gers, who is a season ticket holder. Janick himself lives locally too in the market town of Yarm.
Hartlepool has had tough times economically historically. In the 1980s there were around 30% of the working population who were unemployed. This was one of the highest unemployment rates in the UK. The closure of the shipyards had come before the closure of The British Steel corporation losing around 1500 jobs.
Hartlepool was heavily bombed by the German army in December 1914, targeted because of its industrial connections to ship building. Transport connections include the main road A179 road to the north-west which leads to the A19 road, Durham, Sunderland and Tyneside.
The A689 road is the main road to the south-west towards the A19 & Billingham, Stockton, Middlesbrough and York. The A178 road leads south to Seaton Carew, Graythorp, Seal Sands, Port Clarence and Middlesbrough via the Transporter bridge. The A1086 road leads north to Crimdon, Blackhall, Horden, Peterlee and Easington.
